Psammococconeis and Amphicocconeis taxa, in historical order

Psammococconeis disculoides (Hustedt) M. Garcia (2001: 311 , figs 12–25).

Basionym:— Cocconeis disculoides Hustedt (1955: 17 , pl.5 figs 8–11, pl.7 fig.8) after LM examination of slide Zt3,24 ( Garcia 2001: fig. 15).

Psammococconeis brasiliensis M. Garcia (2001: 309 , 311, figs 1–11).

Holotype:— ICN 91485 (slide) ( Garcia 2001: 311).

Lectotype:—BM 98352 [following Edgley A. César (The Natural History Museum), curator of Diatoms, there’s no record of this slide being received by BM, so it’s presumably lost].

Basionym:— Cocconeis disculoides Hustedt (1955: 17 , pl. 5 figs 8–11, pl. 7 fig. 8).

Homotypic synonyms:— Cocconeis disculoides Hustedt (1955) ; Psammococconeis disculoides (Hustedt) M. Garcia (2001) .

Amphicocconeis debesii (Hustedt) De Stefano (2006: 442 , figs 33–53).

Basionym and Homotypic synonym:— Cocconeis debesi Hustedt (1933: 344, fig 798).

Amphicocconeis mascarenica Riaux-Gobin & Compère (2011: 176 , figs 1, 7–27, 39–41).

Holotype:— SEM stub reference: ‘A 24/01/2007 ’ in collection C. Riaux-Gobin.

Paratypes:— Slide BM 101389 deposited in the National History Museum (London, UK), slide ZU6/ 81 in Hustedt collection (Bremerhaven, Germany), slide BR 4158 in National Botanic Garden of Belgium ( BR) and slide REU 5 in collection C. Riaux-Gobin .

Amphicocconeis rodriguensis Riaux-Gobin & Al-Handal in Riaux-Gobin et al. (2011: 181, 182,?fig. 6, figs 28–38, 45–50). Holotype:— SEM stub reference: ‘2 27/02/2009 ’ in collection C. Riaux-Gobin.

Amphicocconeis discrepans (A.W.F.Schmidt) Riaux-Gobin, Witkowski, Ector & Igersheim (2018: 576 , table 2, figs 9–22).

Basionym:— Cocconeis discrepans A.W.F. Schmidt in Schmidt et al. (1874–1959, Atlas der Diatomaceenkunde: pl. 193, figs 26–28; Cleve 1895:196).

Remarks:—The observed material consisted of a piece of a broken slide covered with mica from the Grunow collection in Vienna. This material (869 W-1901/3162) corresponds to the Grunow capsule collection of Navicula ovulum : collection Grunow N° 869, acquisition by the Herb. Mus. Palat. Vindob. in 1901 under the number 3162. This sample is from the locality Porto Subzanski, Sansego. From this material a SEM stub W Krypto 2017-0003880 was deposited in Naturhistorisches Museum Wien (W), as the holotype of Cocconeis subzanskiensis Riaux-Gobin, Witkowski, Ector & Igersheim (2018: 587 , figs 48–65).
