Pternistria quadrispinus (Hsiao) View in CoL , new combination.

Redescription: Measurements: Male: Head length in dorsal view 1.5mm; width across eyes 2.5mm; interocular space 1.2mm; interocellar space 0.7mm; length of antennal segments: I: II: III: IV= 4.2: 3.5: 3.0: 5.1mm. Pronotum: Length 3.9mm; width across frontal angles 2.2mm; width across lateral angles 6.2mm. Scutellum length 2.5 mm; width 2.5 mm. Maximum width of abdomen 6.0 mm. Body length 21.0mm.

Female: Head length in dorsal view 1.6mm; width across eyes 2.5mm; interocular space 1.2mm; interocellar space 0.7mm; length of antennal segments: I: II: III: IV= 4.0: 3.5: 3.0: 4.6 mm. Pronotum: Length 4.5mm; width across frontal angles 2.4mm; width across lateral angles 6.8mm. Scutellum length 2.6 mm; width 3.0 mm. Maximum width of abdomen 9.2mm. Body length 23.0 mm.

Male: Dorsal coloration: Ground black, eyes rufous, ocelli red; antennal segments I to III black and IV orange; scutellum black; humeral margin of pronotum, clavus, corium castaneous; hemelytral membrane brown; base of connexivum orange; Femora and tibiae black, tarsi yellow, claws black. Ventral coloration: Almost completely black, rostrum orange, middle of abdomen ventrally somewhat castaneous. Structure: Pronotum a little rough, anterolateral border relatively smooth, lateral angles rounded, a little raised; humeral margin a little arcuate posteriorly; corium densely covered with punctuations; abdominal sternum III with a small spinous tubercle on each side, apex of tubercle subacute, four black spots near tubercle; segment III posteriorly produced in middle as a triangle; segment IV also with a small spinous tubercle on each side, tubercles larger than segment III’s. Posterior femora inflated and recurved, with a row of denticulations beneath, a larger one near apex; Posterior tibiae ampliated, apex of above with a small hook, ventral with a small tooth near apex.

Female: Dorsal coloration: Like male. Ventral coloration: Rostrum, margins of posterior femora orange, thorax, abdomen ventral seem rust. Structure: Abdomen laterally expanded, posterior tibiae ampliated, but without any tooth.

Type specimens examined: Holotype: 1♂, China ( Shaowu , Fujian), 1965.V.30, Wang Liangchen leg. ; Allotype: 1♀ China ( Shaowu , Fujian), 1965.V.29, Wang Liangchen leg. ; Paratypes: 1♂, China ( Jianyang , Fujian), 1965.VI.12 ; 2♀, China ( Chongan , Fujian), 1965.VI.22, Liu Shengli leg. ; 1♀, China ( Jianyang , Fujian), 1965.VI.25. (All types kept in NKUM).

Other specimens examined: 2♂, China ( Jianfengling , Hainan), 1984.IV.4 ; 1♂ 1♀, China (Guanshan, Yifeng , Jiangxi), 2002.VII.30, Ding Jianhua leg ..

Distribution: China (Fujian, Jiangxi, Hainan)

Remark: This species was described by Hsiao in 1977. It is similar to Pseudomictis brevicornis in body form and the hind leg of the male. Lacking exact information about genus Pternistria (except for Stål 1873), Hsiao put the species in Pseudomictis . In all members of Pseudomictis the posteriorly produced portion of abdominal sternum III extends through segment IV, and all species lack lateral spines on segment IV. However, in Pseudomictis quadrispinus has lateral spines on sternum IV, and sterna III and IV not produced posteriorly. Therefore, this species should be removed from Pseudomictis . In Mictini , Pternistria Stål and some African genera of the Elasmopada complex have lateral spines on both sternum III and sternum IV. Pternistria can be distinguished from the African genera by the lack of markedly laterally produced humeral angles and much less dilated tibiae. Because Pseudomictis quadrispinus shares generic characters with Pternistria than with genera of the Elasmopada complex, we transfer Pseudomictis quadrispinus to Pternistria as a new combination, Pternistria quadrispinus (Hsiao) .
