Size of largest male: cl 4.9 mm, cw 6.9 mm; largest female: cl 5.1 mm, cw 7.5 mm.
Comparative material examined. None.
Distribution. Bermuda, Bahamas, Florida Keys, Gulf of Mexico, Antilles, Colombia, Venezuela and Brazil (Trindade and Martin Vaz, this study) ( Rathbun 1930; Garth 1978; Lemaitre 1981; Felder et al. 2009). Kempf (1970) listed Paraliomera dispar from the circalittoral zone of the northeastern Brazilian coast without further specifics. This species has not been mentioned from Brazil subsequently until now.
Ecological notes. Paraliomera dispar has been reported from coral reefs, rock pools, rubble, sand, shell, grass and mud bottoms to depths of 154 m ( Rathbun 1930; Garth 1978; Lemaitre 1981; Felder et al. 2009). In Trindade and Martin Vaz, where females have been found to be ovigerous already at cl 3.1 mm, cw 4.9 mm, P. dispar was found associated with calcareous algae and in rocky tide pools to depths of 17 m. This species is parasitized by the isopod Cancricepon choprae (see Rathbun 1924b; Markham 1979)
Remarks. The carapace is almost smooth dorsally, shining. The chelipeds are remarkably unequal; the major cheliped is provided with dense setae on the distomesial and mesioproximal surfaces of propodus and fingers, respectively; the black color of the cheliped fixed finger runs back a little on the ventral surface of the propodus ( Fig. 41A, B View FIGURE 41 ). The carapace anterolateral margin is almost entire in the adult, whereas slightly toothed in the juveniles.
