Bothynu s entellus ( LePeletier & Serville, 1828) species group

Six species are known in the B. entellus species group: B. araya new species, B. condacki new species, B. entellus , B. lancifer , B. stenelus , and B. tricornis . These species are distinguished from other Bothynus species by the following characters: strong sexual dimorphism: males usually with pronotal horns, thickened protarsus with broad inner claw, last protarsomere with a ventro-basal tooth, parameres with apical half expanded in shape of two lateral “flaps”; both sexes with setae dorsally scattered under eye canthus, mentum fused to submentum, metatibia with spatulated inner spur, elytra nearly smooth.

The distribution of most species is only known from the Brazilian areas of the Atlantic rainforest, Campos Gerais, and transitional area between the Atlantic forest and Cerrado, with scattered data from Paraguay. Bothynus lancifer is only known from the Peruvian Amazon rainforest.
