Terebra torquata Adams & Reeve, 1848 View in CoL
Adams & Reeve, 1848: 30, pl. 10, fig. 13.
Type locality: ‘ China Sea’, ‘ H.M.S. Samarang’.
Label locality: ‘ Nagasaki Bay, Kinsu, Japan. Voy. HMS Samarang’
Type material: Lectotype NHMUK 20150108/1 and 1 paralectotype NHMUK 20150108/2 (H. Cuming collection). Indirect lectotype selection by inference of holotype ( Cernohorsky, 1969: 220).
Remarks: The original type locality is likely to be erroneous, as was often the case with material collected during the voyage of the Samarang. According to Petit (2007: 95), some specimens described in The Zoology of the Voyage of H.M.S. Samarang with localities such as ‘ China Sea’ or ‘ Eastern Seas’ are actually eastern Pacific species.
