Dorisiana noriegai Sanborn & Heath, 2014 View in CoL
Dorisiana noriegai Sanborn & Heath, 2014: 243 View in CoL View Cited Treatment (Azara, Dto. Apóstoles, Misiones, Argentina).
Dorisiana brasilianensis Boulard, 2017: 94 View in CoL (Wooded savannah around Brasilia, Moyen Xingu, Brazil). n. syn.
REMARKS. The species Dorisiana brasilianensis Boulard, 2017 is described in limited, general terms but sufficient to be a valid taxon under the Code. Importantly, it is described as having lateral uncus branches that are widely spaced, strongly tapering spines that curve inward slightly ( Boulard 2017). Although the field image attributed to D. brasilianensis in Boulard (2017), the image is actually a species of Fidicina Amyot & Audinet-Serville, 1843 or Fidicinoides Boulard & Martinelli, 1996 and not the holotype of D. brasilianensis (the body shape, coloration, and distinctive wing shape and infuscation are significantly different in the field image from the holotype illustrated in Boulard (2022)). The holotype of D. brasilianensis is illustrated in Boulard (2022) along with an image of the label data (including the holotype label so there is no possibility of confusion as to what the specimen represents), genitalia images, and the same incorrectly identified image of an animal in the field published with the original description in Boulard (2017).
The images of the holotype and its genitalia in Boulard (2022) clearly represent a species of Dorisiana Metcalf, 1952 and match the description provided in Boulard (2017). In addition, the illustrated genitalia are highly distinctive for the genus and exactly match the genitalia of Dorisiana noriegai Sanborn & Heath, 2014 , a species that has been reported from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and French Guiana ( Sanborn 2019a) and was one of several species considered historically to be Dorisiana metcalfi Sanborn & Heath, 2014 (nom. nov. pro Cicada viridis Olivier, 1790 nec Cicada viridis Linnaeus, 1758 ) which has significantly different genitalia. As a result, Dorisiana brasilianensis Boulard, 2017 n. syn. is a junior synonym of Dorisiana noriegai Sanborn & Heath, 2014 . Dorisiana brasilianensis n. syn. was included in the list of species in Nunes et al. (2023).
DISTRIBUTION. The species is known from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and French Guiana ( Sanborn 2019a).
