Type species. Exiliniscus clipeatus Siebenaller and Hessler, 1981 .
Diagnosis. Leutzinae with sixth and seventh pereonites free. Body hemispherical. Cephalon with prominent frontal rostrum. Antennula of ®ve articles, distal article bulbous. Antenna short, length approximately one-quarter of the length of the body. Mandible lacking palp. Posterior pereopods with natatory setae. Female operculum much shorter than the length of the pleon. Pleon spade-shaped in dorsal view, i.e. tapering posteriorly. Uropodal endopod long and narrow, exopod less than one-third the length of the endopod, and protopod broad.
