Material examined: BBB 2016: St. 28. GARCÍA 2015: St. 17bis. (MACN-In: 43513)
Distribution: Marion Islands, Off Prince Edward Island, 567 m ( Wright & Studer 1889); Weddel Sea (71°05’S, 13°01’E), 60–500 m ( Orejas et al. 2003); Antarctic Peninsula, (64°49.4’S to 64°49.5’S), 120–148 m ( Bayer & Stefani, 1987); Burdwood bank (125–177 m) (present study).
Remarks: This is a common Antarctic species, likely being a pioneer species in bottoms recently disturbed ( Orejas et al. 2000). It is also one of the few Antarctic octocorals for which information on its feeding behavior is available ( Orejas et al. 2003). This is the first record of the species in the Burdwood bank and at MPA Namuncurá I.
