Discussion. This primarily Neotropical species is known from the USA (Florida), Mexico (Yucatan), Panama, in the Caribbean region from Jamaica, and it was recently recorded from Guadeloupe ( Grogan et al. 2013). It can be very abundant in Malaise and CDC light trap collections (Huerta, Grogan, personal observations). Huerta (2002) reported more than 200 individuals associated with predominantly forested ecosystems in Yucatan, Mexico . We provide the first record of S. thomsenae from Guatemala and new records from Mexico in the states of Guerrero, Jalisco, Tabasco and Veracruz .
