Toxophora leucon Séguy, 1930 View in CoL
Figs. 1–5 View FIGURES 1 – 5
Pupa ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ). Length: 11.5–12.2 mm. Head width: 1.9–2.1 mm. Thorax width: 2.6–2.8 mm. Abdominal width: 3.1–3.2 mm, tapering to 0.7–0.9 mm at width of anal segment. Coloration: light brown; cephalic and anal tubercles and dorsal abdominal chitinous rods dark brown, darker apically; setae yellowish.
Head. Armed with two pairs of cephalic tubercles fused basally to form a concave arch. Anterior spines totally fused, except at apex ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ), six times longer than the second pair that is situated laterally ( Fig 3 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ); both pairs tapering to sharp apex. Anterior spines with three pairs of short and thin setae, the first pair on the dorsal surface, near the base of the spines and the second on the lateral surface, on the basal half of the spine and a third pair appears ventrally, near the base of the second pair of cephalic tubercles; an additional pair of setae is placed ventrolaterally on the head ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ).
Thorax. With two pairs of dorsal setae ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ); prothoracic spiracle heavily sclerotized, with a dark brown coloration, raised above the surface and located immediately behind the head.
Abdomen. Segment I with thin and long setae, placed on lateral apices of the tergite ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ); segments II–VIII present a similar setal pattern; dorsally the chitinous rods are randomly intercalated with long and thin setae; pleura with three or four strong and long setae, arranged in an oblique row and sternites with four setae placed laterally; on the last segment, the anal tubercle has two pairs of similar spines in a quadrilateral pattern and tapering to a sharp apex ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ); ventral pair curved downwards ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ). Abdominal spiracles slightly darker and more sclerotized than the surrounding area, raised above the surface and placed laterally on segments I–VII.
Hosts. Hymenoptera – Pachodynerius brevithorax (Saussure), 1852; Pachodynerius praecox Saussure, 1855; Pachodynerius sp. ( Vespidae , Eumeninae ), Trypoxylon sp. ( Sphecidae, Larrinae ); and Centris analis (Fabricius), 1804 ( Anthophoridae , Anthophorinae ).
