Dyar dedicates his genus to Daniel William Coquillett, born January 23 1856 in illinois, who contributed
valuable work on agricultural pests and Diptera biology and systematics. In 1896 he was raised to the office of
Hononuy Custodian of Diptera of the United States National Museum, a post which he held at the time of his death on July 7 1911.
Dyar does not remark on his dedication and the only reference to the name of the new genus is on page 47: "Genus COQUllLETTIDIA , new genus...••
