Diagnosis. Members of Bellatheta can be distin- guished from other athetine genera by the combination of the following characters: body parallel-sided; eye small to moderate in size; infraorbital carina incomplete or absent; antennomere 2 longer than 3; labium with ligula divided into 2 lobes at base to half; pronotum less than 1.2 times as wide as long, distinctly wider than head; hypomeron fully visible in lateral aspect; mesocoxal cavities contiguous; mesoventral process pointed at apex; abdominal tergite II with 1 macroseta on each side of midline, III with anterior macrosetae; medi- an lobe of aedeagus elongate, apical process bifid in ventral aspect ( Lohse et al. 1990; Pace 1982; Vogel 2007).
Distribution. Palearctic, Oriental ( Vietnam), and Nearctic (Alaska and Yukon) regions.
