Distribution. Occurring in Africa, Australia, Asia, various island chains, as well as the New World. In the Western Hemisphere, this species is known from Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Saint Barthelemy, St. Croix, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent, Trinidad, the United States, Uruguay, Venezuela and Virgin Islands (Bl̂te 1936, Barber 1939, Allen 1969, Baranowski & Slater 1986, Maes & Ĝllner-Scheiding 1993, Packauskas 2010, Brailovsky 2014a, van der Heyden & Gamboa Hidalgo 2014, Coscarón & Pall 2015, Linares & Orozco 2017, Questel 2018, Brailovsky & Perez-Gelabert 2019). The Bahamas, Cayman Island, Dominica, Colombia, Peru and Surinam are new country records.
