status

Parablechnum smilodon (M.Kessler & Lehnert) Gasper & Salino, Phytotaxa View in CoL 275(3): 217. 2016.

= Blechnum smilodon M.Kessler & Lehnert, Amer. Fern J. View in CoL 97(2): 76. 2007.

Range:— Endemic to Bolivia (CO, LP).

Ecology:— Fairly common; terrestrial in humid forests; 2400–3700 m.

Notes:— In Bolivia, most similar to Parablechnum lima , but that species has sharply truncate pinna bases, larger, less deeply dentate rachis scales, and file-like pinna surfaces. Bolivian specimens have formerly been determined as P. stipitellatum (Sodiro) Gasper & Salino , from Colombia and Ecuador, but that species is larger (leaves to 120 × 22 cm vs. to 90 × 13 cm), has fewer pinnae per blade (20–40 vs. 40–55 pairs), sunken ( vs. flush or slightly raised) veins, and less strongly ciliate rachises and costal scales.
