Subfamily Anabropsinae Rentz & Weissman, 1973 View in CoL DǿdzIJ

This Chinese term is derived from type genus Anabropsis which is the new name of preoccupied Schoenobates, Rehn (1901) didn’t state its etymology, but clearly it is from Anabrus (Mormon Cricket) which means ‘unprepossessing appearance’ to denote their similarity. On account of the meaning, the pronunciation of prefix ‘an’ and body color of these insects, we suggest Chinese word ‘ 黯 (an)’ which means dim, obscure, inconspicuous. As for ‘ ª (mute) ü ’, it never corresponded to any taxa based on Anabropsis , but can also be recommended to cover this subfamily.
