Clinonana mirabilis View in CoL
( Figs. 1A View FIGURE 1. A , C, 4, 5)
Measurements in mm (Ψ, n=50 / ɗ, n=48). Total length: 16.0–18.4 (average=17.4) / 13.6–16.8 (average=15.2). Crown median length: 1.2–2.2 (average=1.6) / 1.0–2.2 (average=1.3). Pronotum median length: 2.5–3.5 (average=3.0) / 2.3–3.0 (average=2.7). Pronotum largest width: 6.8–8.4 (average=7.7) / 6.0–8.0 (average=6.9). Mesonotum largest width: 4.0–5.0 (average=4.6) / 3.8–4.8 (average=4.1). Mesonotum median length: 4.3–5.0 (average=4.5) / 3.3–4.5 (average=4.0).
External morphology. Crown ( Figs. 1A View FIGURE 1. A , C, 4A) median length on average two-fifths of interocular and threetenths transocular width. Pronotum ( Figs. 1A View FIGURE 1. A , C, 4A) largest width on average 2.6 times median length; largest width on average 1.7 times largest mesonotum visible width. Mesonotum ( Figs. 1A View FIGURE 1. A , C, 4A) length on average equal to combined mesal length of crown and pronotum. Forewings usually without supernumerary transverse veins, when present in one to all cells, often in only one forewing. Other characteristics as in generic description.
Male genitalia. Styles ( Figs. 4 View FIGURE 4 E, F) in lateral view with median portion straight. Aedeagus ( Figs. 4 View FIGURE 4 G–J) preatrium pair of processes almost extending to apex of shaft; preatrium pair of processes with apex usually straight ( Figs. 4 View FIGURE 4 G, H), but curved anteriorly in one specimen from Bolivia ( Figs. 4 View FIGURE 4 I, J).
Female genitalia. Valvulae II ( Figs. 5 View FIGURE 5 H, I) of ovipositor dorsal margin without or with two to seven irregular teeth.
Notes. Clinonana mirabilis is similar in external morphology to C. rafaeli sp. nov. but differs in the male genitalia as follows: (1) styles in lateral view without ventral concavity in median portion ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 F, arrow), and (2) preatrium processes almost reaching shaft apex ( Figs. 4 View FIGURE 4 G–J). Most specimens have been captured in light traps (single specimen with a Malaise trap) in Amazonian terra firme forests, but apparently they are not abundant, with no more than five specimens collected during a single event. Few specimens from Parque Estadual do Mirador (MA, Brazil) were collected in an area dominated by Cerrado vegetation, however most probably in gallery forests, which are continuous to the humid Amazon forest.
