Comments: The specific name is spelled kowalewskii and kawalewskii in Grimm, 1876 (pp. 112-117), but the species is named after A. O. Kowalewsky and the spelling kowalewskii has been accepted by subsequent authors. One of four ponto-caspian species belonging to Hypania or related genera; the group is in need of revision.
