Peponapis Robertson View in CoL
The genus Poponapis contains several species, which are distributed mostly in North and Central America ( Urban et al. 2007). All species of the genus visit crops of Cucurbita to obtain pollen ( Hurd & Linsley 1967; Wagenknecht 1970). Some species are broadly distributed, due to the extension of cultivation of domestic Cucurbita ( Michener 2007) . The South American species of Peponapis were reviewed by Hurd & Linsley (1967). These autors also illustratrated some male structures of the species P. fervens , P. melonis (Friese) and P. citrullina (Cockerell) , the latter being the only species of Peponapis represented in Chile.
