Diagnosis

Body elliptical, measuring 70–100 × 35–50 µm in vivo. Two macronuclear nodules and one to four micronuclei. Contractile vacuole located approximately at mid-body. Adoral zone composed of 22–28 membranelles. Constantly 16 frontoventral-transverse cirri with three transverse cirri closely positioned and four frontoventral cirri arranged in triangle. One left and one right marginal row comprising 15–21 and 19–24 cirri, respectively. Four dorsal kineties and two dorsomarginal kineties. Three caudal cirri. Resting cyst with polygon wrinkles on the surface. Soil habitat.

Type locality

Collected from the surface soil (c. 0–10 cm) on a hill in Jiangjunshan ancient town (34º01 ʹ 19 ʹ ’N; 108º65 ʹ 51 ʹ ’E), Xi’an, China.

Deposition of slides

The protargol slide (No. LZ2016041702A) containing the holotype specimen ( Figures 1 View Figure 1 (c,d) and 2(k,l); Table 1) and other three paratype slides (No. LZ 14111601 B–D) have been deposited in the Laboratory of Protozoology, Xi’an Jiaotong University, China. The holotype specimen was marked on the back of the slides, following Aescht (2008) and Foissner (2014) for the labelling of the slides.

Etymology

The species-group name ‘ paratricirrata ’ is a composite of the Greek adjective ‘para-’ (beside or like) and the species-group name ‘ tricirrata ’, meaning a ciliate similar to Sterkiella tricirrata .
