Carterus interceptus Dejean, 1830: 233 View in CoL .
The specimen here designated as lectotype is a male bearing the labels: “Klug”, “ interceptus Hoffmanseg in Lusitania. D. Schüppel ”, “ex-Museo Chaudoir” and “ Lectotype of Carterus interceptus Dejean, 1830 desig. by J. Serrano ” .
Dejean (1830) studied at least one male and one female, as stated in the original description. He only mentioned Il se trouve au Portugal with regard to the locality .
Carterus interceptus View in CoL is well differentiated from other congeneric taxa by the deeply notched labrum at middle, together with mandible details, peculiar ligula and paraglossa, large body size, etc. (e.g., Fuente, 1927; Antoine, 1959). These characters are well represented in the lectotype.
The species shows an Ibero-Maghrebian distribution pattern.
