Anthaxia (Haplanthaxia) duvivieri Kerremans, 1898 View in CoL
( Figs. 6–8 View FIGURES 6 – 8 )
Anthaxia duvivieri Kerremans, 1898: 300 View in CoL . Type locality: Moero [the old name of the Lake Mweru at the border of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia].
Anthaxia duvivieri: Kerremans, 1903: 172 View in CoL (monograph); 1908: 136 (taxonomy); 1909: 26 (catalogue); Obenberger, 1915: 80 (note); Schouteden, 1916: 329 (note); Obenberger, 1917: 182, 185 (monograph); 1928: 219 (taxonomy); 1930: 541 (catalogue); 1931: 100 (taxonomy); Burgeon, 1941: 191 (monograph).
Anthaxia (Haplanthaxia) duvivieri: Bílý, 1997: 20 View in CoL , 66 (catalogue); Bellamy, 2008: 1382 (catalogue).
Anthaxia eumede Théry, 1947: 144 View in CoL , Fig. 34, syn. nov. Type locality: Angola, Kukoti.
Anthaxia eumede: Ferreira, 1965: 850 View in CoL (catalogue).
Anthaxia (Cratomerus) eumede: Bílý, 1997: 21 View in CoL , 69 (catalogue); 1999: 230 (note); Bellamy, 2008: 1386 (catalogue).
Type specimens studied. Anthaxia duvivieri . Syntypes (9 specimens of both sexes, BMNH, Fig. 8 View FIGURES 6 – 8 ): “ Syntype [p, round, blue-framed] // L. Moero, J. Duvivier [h] // duvivieri Kerr. Type [h] // Kerremans 1903 -59 [p]”. Anthaxia eumede . Holotype by monotypy (female, LCDF, Fig. 6 View FIGURES 6 – 8 ): “ Angola Mss. 1932 [p] // Eumede Théry [h] TYPE [red, p]”.
Having studied the holotype of Anthaxia eumede and 9 syntypes of A. duvivieri I failed to find any substantial differences and I propose that A. eumede Théry, 1947 to be conspecific with A. duvivieri Kerremans, 1898 and a junior synonym.
According to the illustration in the description ( Théry, 1947) I erroneously treated this species in the subgenus Cratomerus ( Bílý, 1997) and this mistake was repeated by Bellamy (2008). Théry (1947) designated the type specimen as a male but after having dissected it I found it to be a female. Also the type locality is more precisely given in the text of the description as “Kukoti (Dr. Monard)”.
