Diagnosis. Ophidiid with a blunt snout; eye diameter almost as long as snout; hind margin of preopercle usually with 3 sharp spines; pectoral fin rays 22–33 (lower 5–11 free and longer than upper ones); pelvic fins with two rays in each.
