( Fig. 3O View FIGURE 3 )

Material examined. 12 specimens, 99–150 mm SL: MOVI 38799-38800 View Materials (2, 113– 127 mm), E-0516; MOVI 39146-39153 View Materials (8, 97– 147 mm), E-0511; MOVI 39185 View Materials (1, 120 mm) and MOVI 39138 View Materials (1, 105 mm), E-0500 .

Diagnosis. None to one weak preopercular spine; dorsal fin with 2 distinct ocelli and none in anal fin.

Distribution. Continental Slope off Brazil from 9°– 16°S, at depths from 233 to 641 m.

Remarks. Colleted off Bahia, from 233 to 433 m depth. All the characters of the 12 specimens are very similar to those of the holotype of N. ocellatus (Nielsen 1999, Table 4). The anterior of the two dorsal fin ocelli is placed in front of a line through the anus and the posterior behind the line. Neobythites gilli is also characterized by having two distinct dorsal fin ocelli, but both are placed behind a line through the anus.
