Distribution:— Endemic.

Notes:— Interpreted as a hybrid between P. insigne and P. villosum . Grant (1895: 379), citing Mr. Sallier, doubted its hybrid origin. Cypripedium sallieri var. hyeanum and C. sallieri var. aureum appear to be the same. When illustrating the former, Linden said in French that this plant (cultivated by Jules Hye, Gand) is a subvariety of C. sallieri , but he did not use an epithet like hyeanum ( Linden 1886: t. 84). We have so far not found a place of publication of this name but are undertaking further work. Linden’s plate could serve as neotype if a publication is found where the name is established.
