( Figs. 9 View FIGURE 9 D–G)
Diagnostic remarks. A large, robust katydid with wide tegmina that surpass hind knees ( Figs. 9F, G View FIGURE 9 ) and the tip of the narrow, weakly curved ovipositor ( Fig. 9E View FIGURE 9 ), a round head with widely separated antennal sockets ( Fig. 9D View FIGURE 9 ), and bilaterally open tympana on the front tibia. The coloration is usually brown, often with glossy black spots on the median field of the tegmen. This species is unlikely to be confused with any other katydid in Mozambique.
Bioacoustics. The call of A. lamellata is a long, uninterrupted train of syllables, loud enough to be heard from several hundred meters. Unfortunately, the population in Gorongosa has not been recorded but individuals in Guinea produce calls with the rate of 18 syllables/s.
Distribution and natural history. A. lamellata is widely distributed in sub-Saharan Africa ( Naskrecki 1994) and is found in habitats that range from lowland tropical forests to afromontane meadows. In Gorongosa this species is uncommon but widely distributed, having been found in the lowland gardens of the heavily populated town of Villa Gorongosa as well as the humid evergreen forest of Mt. Goronogsa at the elevation of 1100 m.
Measurements (1 male, 1 female). body w/wings: male 64, female 71.1; body w/o wings: male 45, female 55.6; pronotum: male 10, female 10.6; tegmen: male 54, female 61.4; hind femur: male 34, female 39.4; ovipositor: 20.9 mm.
