Holotype. ♂. BRAZIL: Santa Catarina: Nova Teutonia, I-1974, 300– 500 m, Fritz Plaumann ( FSCA).

Paratypes. Five specimens. Diagnosis. Specimens of this species superficially resemble members of P. casselorum , but specimens of P. catarina differ by having the interstitial spaces arenose.

Description. Size: Length 5.5 mm; width 1.8 mm. Form: As in Fig. 110. Integument: Head, frons, epicranium, and postgenae brown; precapitular antennomeres black, capitular antennomeres brown; pronotum brown, yellow at anterior angles; femora mostly yellow, infuscated, tibiae brown, pterothorax and abdomen brown. Head: Eyes not as wide as frons (10:12); funicular antennomeres slightly expanded, 6 th antennomere not acuminate ( Fig. 38). Thorax: Pronotum transverse (35:32), lateral tubercle prominent ( Fig. 68); asetiferous punctures prominent throughout elytral disc, epipleural fold gradually narrowed to elytral apex. Abdomen: Phallic apex as in Fig. 86.

Variation. The available specimens are quite homogeneous.

Natural History. The types were collected during January, October, and November, at altitudes of 300–350 m.

Distribution. Known only from Brazil ( Fig. 125).

Etymology. The specific epithet, catarina , constitutes a noun in apposition and refers to the type locality.
