Current status. Andrena ( Opandrena) schencki Morawitz, 1866 .
Remark. E. Eversmann (1852: 29) listed the species named as “ Andrena Rosae Pz. ” and provided a brief description of this species and its two forms. F. Morawitz (1866) re-examined the Eversmann collection and reported that specimens published by Eversmann (1852) as “ Andrena Rosae ” belong to the new species known previously under the invalid name “ Sсhrankella Kirby”. Although F. Morawitz (1866) did not designate type material, the name Andrena schencki Morawitz, 1866 was based on specimens from the Eversmann collection labeled by Eversmann as “ Andrena Rosae ”. There are nine such specimens in the collection of the ZISP. Of them only three specimens correspond to the Eversmann description of “ Andrena Rosae ” main form and belong to A. schencki . One of these specimens (a male) is designated here as the lectotype of A. schencki . Another six specimens labeled as “var.” belong to five different species of the genera Andrena , and Halictus ( Andrena labialis ( Kirby, 1802) – 2 ♀,? Germany; A. ovatula ( Kirby, 1802) – 1 ♀, Egypt; A. curvungula Thomson, 1870 , 1 ♂,? Germany; A. rufizona Imhoff, 1834 – 1 ♀, Orenburg, Russia; Halictus compressus ( Walckenaer, 1802) – 1 ♀, Orenburg, Russia). We have not included these specimens in the paralectotype series. The type locality is established here as presumably Germany, since the collection of Keferstein ( lectotype label data) comes mainly from Germany. Eversmann (1852) did not indicate the exact locality for the “ Andrena Rosae ” material examined and only mentioned that this species is rare in the Orenburg province. So, the specimens of “ Andrena Rosae ” could come from anywhere.
Distribution. Europe, Russia (European part), Caucasus, Turkey, Israel, Iran, Turkmenistan.
