( Figs 1–3 View FIGURES 1–12. 1–3 )
Description. Male. Integument mostly black; palpi pale yellow; ventral side of scape with reddish brown spot distally; mostly of prosternal process orange; mesoventral process orange except brownish part of lateral margins; metaventrite orangish brown; basal half of elytra mostly dark yellowish brown, more brownish laterally and close to middle; tarsi light yellowish brown except dark claws; abdominal ventrites I–III orange (apex of III more brownish laterally); abdominal ventrite IV with triangular orange macula centrally, dark brown laterally; ventrite V dark brown.
Head. Frons finely, moderately abundantly punctate toward vertex, sparser toward clypeus; with grayish pubescence not obscuring integument, brownish toward vertex, whitish close to lower eye lobes; with a few long, erect yellowish setae. Vertex moderately coarsely, sparsely punctate, nearly smooth close to prothoracic margin; with black pubescence from area between antennal tubercles to constriction, interspersed with long, erect, sparse dark setae. Area between superior region of lower eye lobe and antenna with dense white pubescent band. Area behind upper eye lobes moderately coarsely and abundantly punctate in wide area close to eye, smooth toward prothorax; with black pubescence interspersed with long, erect, sparse dark setae on punctate area, glabrous on smooth area. Area behind superior 2/3 of lower eye lobes moderately coarsely, abundantly punctate close to eye, gradually finer sparser toward ventral side, smooth close to prothorax; basal 2/3 with black pubescence interspersed with long, erect dark setae on punctate area, except transverse grayish white pubescence between area with black pubescence and glabrous area (slightly distinct depending on angle of light source); distal third finely, sparsely punctate; with oblique, white pubescent band from eye to almost apex of gena, with grayish white pubescence on remaining surface, fused with transverse grayish white pubescent band. Antennal tubercles with brownish pubescence basally, more grayish toward apex. Genae finely, sparsely punctate except smooth distal area; with dense, longitudinal, wide white pubescent band close to frons, grayish white between this band and the other starting behind lower eye lobe (more white depending on angle of light source); with a few long, erect yellowish setae. Antennae 2.1 times elytral length, reaching elytral apex at distal quarter of antennomere VII; scape and antennomeres with yellowish pubescence not obscuring integument (more whitish depending on angle of light source), but pedicel and base of antennomere III partially with white pubescence; antennal formula (ratio) based on length of antennomere III: scape = 0.57; pedicel = 0.10; IV = 0.57; V = 0.52; VI = 0.46; VII = 0.44; VIII = 0.41; IX = 0.38; X = 0.27; XI = 0.22.
Thorax. Pronotum moderately coarsely, abundantly punctate on longitudinal central area, slightly sparser laterally; centro-basal third with moderately white pubescent band, gradually evanescent toward middle; centrodistal area with transverse, white pubescent band, distinctly less dense than longitudinal band, gradually evanescent sideward; remaining surface with grayish white pubescence not obscuring integument (indistinct depending on angle of light source); with long, erect, moderately sparse yellowish setae. Sides of prothorax moderately coarsely, abundantly punctate; with subsquare, dense yellow pubescent spot on center of basal area (distinctly visible in dorsal view); remaining surface with grayish white pubescence as on pronotum, interspersed with long, erect, sparse yellowish setae. Prosternum moderately coarsely and abundantly punctate, with brownish pubescence not obscuring integument; prosternal process with margins narrowly elevated. Mesoventrite finely, sparsely punctate, with brownish pubescence not obscuring integument; mesanepisternum with brownish pubescence, gradually yellow toward mesepimeron (distinct yellow on area close to elytra); mesepimeron with dense yellow pubescence. Metanepisternum with dense yellow pubescence. Sides of metasternum with wide, dense yellow pubescent area (slightly paler than on metanepisternum); remaining surface with yellow pubescence partially obscuring integument (distinctly sparser than laterally). Scutellum with white pubescence nearly obscuring integument.
Elytra. Coarsely, abundantly punctate on basal 2/3, finer, sparser on distal third; with longitudinal pale yellow pubescent band from scutellum to about apex of basal third along suture, gradually narrowed toward its apex; remaining surface of basal half with pale yellow pubescence not obscuring integument, interspersed with long, erect yellowish setae; basal area of distal half with wide, transverse band with brownish pubescence (indistinct depending on angle of light source), widened toward sides (distal margin distinctly oblique); remaining surface of distal third with cream pubescence obscuring integument, slightly yellower on some areas, without long erect setae.
Legs. Femora with brownish pubescence not obscuring integument (darker depending on angle of light source), interspersed with long, erect, sparse yellowish setae (more abundant ventrally on basal third). Tibiae with brownish pubescence partially obscuring integument, more bristly on distal half, interspersed with long, erect, sparse yellowish setae.
Abdomen. Ventrites with grayish white pubescence not obscuring integument, more yellowish on orange area due to color of integument.
Dimensions. Total length, 10.7; prothoracic length, 1.9; basal prothoracic width, 2.0; distal prothoracic width, 1.8 (2.0 on widest area close to apex); humeral width, 2.6; elytral length, 6.8.
Type material. Holotype male from FRENCH GUIANA: Piste du plateau de Nancibo (pk 6; “piégeage lumineux”), 17.I.1985, B. Lalanne-Cassou col., #745 ex collection IRD ( MNHN) . Paratype male from FRENCH GUIANA: Tonnegrande , 18.IV.1999, H. Belot col. ( HBPC) .
Etymology. The species is named in honor of Bernard Lalanne-Cassou, specialist of Neotropical Lepidoptera , Noctuidae who collected a lot of rare species for the first author, at light trapping, during his several journeys in French Guiana.
