Type material. Holotype. male, 26.v.2011, W Mongolia, Hovd aimak, near Erdene-Buren somon, 1400 m, Yakovlev R.V. leg. Slide AV0666 Volynkin (Coll. ZISP). Paratypes: 9 males, 7 females, with the same data as the holotype (Colls AVB, BBT and ZISP); 2 males, 1 female, 09–10.vi.2011, W Mongolia, Hovd aimak, Bulgan-gol basin, Bayan-Gol river valley, Arshantyn-Nuruu Range, Ulyastajn-Sala river, 1900 m, 46°21’N; 91°08’E. Yakovlev R.V. leg. (Coll. AVB); 12 males, 9 females, 30–31.v.2011, SW Mongolia, Govi-Altai aimak, Mongolian Altai Mts (S slope), Mogoijn-Gol valley, 1800 m, 45°39’N, 93°47’E. Yakovlev R.V. leg. Diagnosis. The new subspecies differs from the other subspecies of M. lama in the greyish brown with reddish suffusion or brownish-ochreous ground colour.

Description. External morphology ( Figs 7–10 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ). Wingspan 35–42 mm. Head, thorax and abdomen greyish brown or ochreous brown. Ground colour of forewing varies from greyish brown or ochreous brown to reddish brown. Crosslines thin, double. Submarginal line pale, thin, dentate. Marginal line present as a series of black dots between the veins. Basal dash short, thin, black. Claviform dark brown or reddish brown, with thin black border; medial fascia thin, black. Medial area shadowed around claviform and medial fascia and in the cell also. Terminal area dark, greyish brown. Cilia greyish brown. Hindwing pale, greyish brown, discal spot diffuse, semilunar. Cilia pale greyish brown. Male genitalia ( Figs 55, 56 View FIGURES 51 – 56 ): very close to those of other three subspecies and differ from M. l. lama in the somewhat narrower juxta; from M. l. kortka in the more rounded cucullus, narrower juxta and less dentate ventral margin of digitus; and from M. l. ayubaevorum in the somewhat larger carina. Female genitalia ( Fig. 99 View FIGURES 97 – 104 ): differ from M. l. lama ( Fig. 97 View FIGURES 97 – 104 ) in the somewhat broader ductus bursae and from M. l. kortka ( Fig. 98 View FIGURES 97 – 104 ) in the somewhat narrower antrum, narrower and less curved ductus bursae; the female fenitalia of a new subspecies have no diagnostic features relative to M. l. ayubaevorum .

Distribution. Central Asian. West Mongolia and south of Tyva Republic (South Siberia).

Etymology. Etugen is the goddess of the earth in Mongolian mythology.
