Type species. Chiton laqueatus Sowerby, 1841 , by monotypy.

Distribution. Atlantic (African coast) and temperate and tropical Indo-Pacific.The fossil record extends back to the upper Eocene or lower Oligocene in Washington, U.S.A. ( Dell’Angelo et al. 2011a), and the Miocene to the Pleistocene of Europe ( Dell’Angelo et al. 2004, 2016; Studencka & Dulai 2010).
