Smetana, 2005b: 574 (misidentified as Staphylinus insignis J. Müller, 1926 ); Smetana, 2011: 401 ( Type locality: CHINA, border Shaanxi-Sichuan, Daba Shan, pass 20 km SSE Zhenping , 31°44’N 109°35’E, 1700–1800 m) GoogleMaps ; Schülke & Smetana, 2015: 1085 (Catalog of Palaearctic Region).

Material examined. CHINA: Yunnan Province [New Record]: 1 male, 3 females, Fugong, Pihe town, Jiajiu village, Bacunhe, 26.54816°N, 98.89576°E, 1120 m, 29.IV.2004, coll. Hongbin Liang (IZ-CAS); 2 males, 1 female, Gaoligongshan Mountains, Baoshan Prefecture, Baoshan County, 28 air km E of Tengchong at Luoshuidong, 24°56.9’N/98°45.4’E, 2300 m, 26–31.X.1998, coll. D. H. Kavanaugh., C. E. Griswold, C. -L. Long, & H. -X. He collectors (IZ-CAS); Xizang Province [New Record]:1 male, Motuo, 1000–1200 m, 28.II.1983, coll. Yinheng Han (IZ-CAS).

Measurements. Body length: 16.0–18.8 mm. CL: 0.87; EL: 3.29; ELS: 1.65; EW: 3.56; HL: 2.35; HW: 2.81; PO: 0.89; PL: 2.89; PW: 2.67.

Distribution. Before this study Miobdelus insignitus was recorded from the provinces of Shaanxi and Sichuan; it is recorded for the first time from Yunnan and Xizang.
