Typhlops muelleri Schlegel, 1839 View in CoL

Material examined. MNHN 2002.0430 (female; SVL> 310 mm, TaL 6 mm; specimen in very bad condition), Tigapulan Mts., Province of Riau.

Taxonomic comments. This taxon has long been considered a subspecies of Typhlops diardii Schlegel, 1839 . We follow Taylor (1965) and Wallach in David & Vogel (1996) in regarding Typhlops muelleri as a valid species distinct from Typhlops diardii . This species is monotypic.

Distribution on Sumatra. Provinces of Sumatera Utara, Sumatera Barat, Riau, Jambi, Bengkulu, and Sumatera Selatan ( David & Vogel, 1996; this work). Also the islands of Pulau We, Nias and Bangka ( David & Vogel, 1996).

Biology. This specimen was found in November dead on a road crossing a part already burnt of a large tract of primary forest in process of total destruction.
