Odostomiopsis Thiele, 1903: 68 . Type species: Odostomiopsis typica Thiele, 1903 [Recent, Kerguelen Islands], by original designation.

Ohlinia Strebel, 1905: 597 . Type species: Admete limnaeiformis Smith, 1879 [Recent, South Atlantic], by original designation.

Ptisanula Odhner in De Geer, 1910 [nomen nudum]; Odhner 1913: 329. Type species: Ptisanula limnaeoides Odhner, 1913 [Recent, Spitzberg], by monotypy.

DIAGNOSIS. — Shell morphology. Shell external, fragile, oval, with an elevated, flat, concave or involute spire. Aperture longitudinal, normally almost as long as the shell, anteriorly rounded. Columella with one fold. Operculum absent.

Anatomy. Headshield with 2 anterior short lobes. Parapodia absent. Digestive system with no gizzard plates. Radula with a denticulate rachidian tooth and a plate-like lateral tooth. Reproductive system monaulic. Penis unarmed.

REMARKS. — Toledonia was introduced by Dall (1902) for Toledonia perplexa Dall, 1902 , a South American species, based on the shell morphology. Unaware of Dall’s (1902) description, Thiele (1903) and Strebel (1905) introduced the genera Odostomiopsis and Ohlinia , respectively, and provided anatomical information. A review of Thiele’s (1903) and Strebel’s (1905) descriptions reveals that there are no anatomical differences between Odostomiopsis , Ohlinia and Toledonia that justify the maintenance of three genera.

The name Ptisanula was introduced by Odhner in De Geer (1910) without a description (nomen nudum). Three years later, Odhner (1913) provided a description of this new genus based on the shell morphology of a fossil shell and some recent specimens from Sweden. This description was completed by Odhner (1914) with detailed anatomical descriptions of the recent material. Odhner (1913, 1914) compared Ptisanula with Diaphana as well as other genera of “ Cephalaspidea ” but not with Toledonia . The anatomy and shell morphology of Ptisanula is similar to that of Toledonia and these two names are here regarded as synonyms.
