TYPE LOCALITY: Argentina, Salta Prov., Bajo Rio Cachi .
DISTRIBUTION: SE Peru, through WC Bolivia, to N Argentina and Chile.
SYNONYMS: berlepschii.
COMMENTS: Subgenus Akodon . Sometimes referenced as a member of Bolomys ( Bianchi et al., 1971; Gardner and Patton, 1976), but its inclusion, together with berlepschii, within Akodon proper is more strongly supported ( Pine et al., 1979; Reig, 1987).
