TYPE LOCALITY: USA, "Simpson's Route" between Camp Floyd (= Fairfield), Utah and Carson City, Nevada (as restricted by Goldman, 1932:61) .
DISTRIBUTION: SE Oregon and SW Idaho, south through Nevada and S California, USA, to S Baja California, Mexico.
SYNONYMS: abbreviata , arenacea , aridicola, bella , californica , desertorum , egresso, felipensis , gilva , grinnelli, insularis , intermedia , latirostra, marcosensis, marshalli, molagrandis, nevadensis , notia, nudicauda , perpallida, petricola, pretiosa , ravida, sola, vicina.
COMMENTS: Subgenus Neotoma . Aside from removal of N. devia , may still represent a composite of two species (see Mascarello, 1978).
