status

Larinus cylindrus Hoffmann, 1963

Larinus cylindrus Hoffmann, 1963: 88

Current status: Lixus cylindrus ( Hoffmann, 1963) View in CoL is a junior homonym of Lixus cylindrus (Fabricius, 1791) View in CoL . It is a valid species and is now known as Lixus isfahanensis View in CoL nom. n.

Type. In Hoffmann’s collection at MNHN is a specimen (probably female) mounted on card bearing the handwritten labels: “Ispahan, 1959, Iran, G. Remaudière”, “ Larinus (Larinorhynchus) cylindrus m. A. Hoffmann det.”, “ Holotype (unique)” on red paper. According to the original description the type locality is “ Iran ”.

Remarks. Larinus cylindrus is a member of the genus Lixus Fabricius, 1801 as Lixus cylindrus ( Hoffmann, 1963) comb. n. The name is a junior homonym of Lixus cylindrus (Fabricius, 1781) , and the new replacement name Lixus isfahanensis nom. n. is here proposed. Lixus isfahanensis is closely related to Lixus kraatzi Capiomont, 1875 , but it is a larger species.
