Valdasus bolivianus Carvalho, 1989 View in CoL
Valdasus bolivianus Carvalho, 1989: 92-94 View in CoL (as new species, DV), Carvalho & Froeschner, 1994: 506 (catalog), Schuh, 1995: 38 (catalog), Gorczyca, 2006: 19 (catalog), Carpintero et al., 2006: 6 View Cited Treatment (new record for Argentina, probably a misidentifica-tion—see discussion under V. schoenherrei ).
Examined specimens. Holotype (♀): Bolivia, Cobiza , Pando, xii.1956, Prozin leg. ( MNRJ) (the specimen was examined by the second author during his last stay in Rio in 2016 and destroyed by the fire ravaging the Museum in September 2018).
Diagnosis. Recognized by the following set of features: pronotum devoid of yellow stripe, pronotal disk lighter than areas of callosities; body length always less than 6 mm; antennal segment I dark brown; exocorium devoid of relatively large, yellow patch near medial part; embolium and cuneus paler than clavus, corium and membrane.
Redescription. Female holotype. Measurements (mm) (according to Carvalho, 1989: 92). Total length in dorsal view: 5.6, total width in middle of hemelytra (wider area): 2.2. Head. Width of vertex in dorsal view: 0.4, width of head across eyes in dorsal view: 1.0, length: 0.4. Antenna. Length of segment I 0.6, II 1.6, III 1.5, IV missing. Pronotum. Length (including collar): 0.8, posterior width (between humeral angles): 1.7. Cuneus. Length; 0.5, width: 0.4. COLORATION. Head. Frons and vertex yellowish brown almost evenly colored, whereas clypeus, juga and lora, slightly paler locally. Antennal segment I yellowish brown apically tinged with red. Other segments missing in holotype when examined. Eyes reddish brown. Pronotum brown, slightly darker on callosities than on disk. Mesoscutum brown. Scutellum dark brown, its apex yellowish. Hemelytra, including membrane, dark brown, apex of clavus and embolium lighter, the clavus with a reddish line on its inner margin. Femora yellowish brown to red brown. Tibia yellowish. Tibial spines (or stiff setae) whitish.
TEXTURE AND VESTITURE. Head. Frons almost glabrous. Lora with some long erect setae. First antennal segment with stiff erect setae. Pronotal collar narrow, its surface narrowly and shallowly punctate, with erect white setae. Pronotal disk and pronotal callosities widely but shallowly punctate, the disk bearing numerous long erect setae. Scutellum with sparse relatively wide but shallow punctation and elongate erect white setae. Hemelytra with some erect white setae. Clavus, endocorium and exocorium punctate, punctation almost black, relatively wide but shallow. STRUCTURE. Head elongate vertically. Vertex not carinate but sulcate. Juga and lora short. First antennal segment short, bulbous. Mesoscutum almost covered. Veins rising.
Male unknown.
Biology. Unknown.
Distribution. Bolivia.
Discussion. This species remains poorly known. Our redescription is based on notes taken by the second author during his last stay in Rio de Janeiro and on available photo of the type. The presence in Argentina remains to be established, as the only female specimen cited by Carpintero et al. from this country has been putatively identified in the present work as Valdasus schoenherri .
