Euphthiracarus longisetus View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figs. 19–22 View FIGURES 19 – 22 )
Material examined. Holotype: adult (in alcohol, W-93-15), China: Hunan Province, Yizhang County, Mangshan (24°58'43"N, 112°51'03"E), from litter, 19 Mar., 1991, leg. Fu-Sheng Huang. Paratypes: two adults (in alcohol, W- 93-15), same data as holotype.
Etymology. The new specific name “ longisetus ” is Latin for “long setae” and refers to the length of setae.
Measurements. Holotype: Prodorsum: length 410, width 290, height 145, setae: ss 140, in 305, le 245, ro 152, ex 55, distance between setae: ro -ro 70, in -in 160, le -le 75, in -le 95, le -ro 100; notogaster: length 849, width 590, height 560; setae: c1 280, c2 270, c3 300, c p 336, d1 241, d2 215, e1 268, e2 201, h1 261, h2 210, h3 151, ps1 215, ps2 170, ps3 165; distance between setae: c1-d1 307, d1-e1 210, e1-h1 145, h1-ps1 155; ventral region: genitoaggenital plate 318×135, anoadanal plate 420×95. Paratypes: Prodorsum: length 345–412, width 240–292, height 119–150; notogaster: length 670–835, width 470–560, height 465–629; ventral region: genitoaggenital plate 310×130, anoadanal plate 420×100.
Integument: Colour brown. Surface of body densely punctate.
Prodorsum: Two pairs of parallel lateral carinae present, upper carina stronger and longer than lower one; bothridial scale situated below bothridium, posterior median apodeme present; sensilli setiform, sparsely barbed in distal half; interlamellar and lamellar setae long and erect, sparsely barbed and flagellate in distal half; rostral setae thin, rough, semi-erect, flagellate and directed inwards distally; exobothridial setae short and fine; comparative length: in>le> ro> ss>ex.
Notogaster: 14 pairs of notogastral setae, setae c1, c2, c3 and c p long, similar in shape to interlamellar setae, sparsely barbed and flagellate in distal half, other setae robust and relatively short, sparsely barbed in distal half; setae c1-3 remote from anterior border, setae c1 slightly more so than setae c2 and c3; vestigial setae f1 located anteriorly of setae h1; openings of opisthosomal glands and five pairs of lyrifissures present.
Venter: Genital plates with nine pairs of setae, g1-3 short and fine, located in progenital position, g4-5 thick and slightly longer, posterior four setae thicker and longer than anterior ones; two pairs of aggenital setae present, ag1 minute, ag2 thick and more than eight times as long as ag1; three pairs of anal and three pairs of adanal setae present, setae an1 and an2 smooth and flagellate at distal end, setae an3 and adanal setae shorter, robust and covered with small and sparse spines in distal half; lyrifissures iad situated between setae an3 and ad3.
Gnathosoma: Setae h of mentum longer than distance between them; palps three-segmented with setal formula: 2-2-8(1).
Legs: Chaetotaxy of legs (without tarsi): I: 1-3-4(2)-5(1); II: 1-3-3(1)-5(1), III: 2-2-2(1)-2(1), IV: 2-1-1(1)- 2(1); all legs heterotridactylous.
Distribution. Known only from type locality.
Remarks. This new species is similar to E. pakistanensis Hammer, 1977 , but differs from the latter by following combined characters: sensilli setiform without swollen head; length of notogastral setae not heterotrichous, especially setae c1, c2, c3 and c p long and flagellate in distal half; ag1 minute, shorter than genital setae.
