Diagnosis. Rostrum slightly directed downwards, reaches end of second segment of antennular peduncle, dorsal margin with 6 teeth regularly divided, ventral margin with one tooth. Basal segment of antennular peduncle with broad and acute stylocerite, almost reaches the half this segment and with an anterolateral spine. Scaphocerite with strong distal tooth that overreaches the lamella. Carapace with antennal spine and small supraorbital spine. Mandible without palp. First pereopods slender, overreaching scaphocerite with part of merus, fingers smaller than palm. Second pereopods unequal in shape and size, both dactyli with a strong rounded tooth. Third to fifth pereopods with bifid dactyli. Pleura of first five somites of abdomen rounded. Telson with 2 pairs of dorsal spines and 3 pairs of spines on posterior margin.
Distribution. Western Atlantic: Cuba (Batabanó Gulf), Mexico (Baía de La Ascensión) Antigua, Dominica, Saint Lucia, Tobago and Brazil (Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte [Atol das Rocas]) ( Figure 9 View FIGURE 9 ) ( Holthuis, 1951; Abele e Kim, 1986; Martínez-Iglesias & García Raso, 1999; Coelho Filho, 2006; Cardoso & Young, 2007; Román-Contreras & Martínez-Mayén, 2010).
Material examined. RIO GRANDE DO NORTE. Atol das Rocas, 1 ovigerous female, 2 indeterminate, (MNRJ- 19035); Atol das Rocas, Piscina da Ilha do Cemitério, 1 female, 1 ovigerous female, (MNRJ-17918); Atol das Rocas, 1 ovigerous female, (MNRJ-19036); Atol das Rocas, 2 females, 1 ovigerous female, 1 indeterminate, (MNRJ-17892).
Ecological notes. The species is found at depths between 1,5 and 20 m, on turtle-grass flats, near a mangrove swamp; in or a waterlogged stump; and associated with coral encrusted rocks ( Chace, 1972; Cardoso & Young, 2007).
