Beaverium sundaensis ( Eggers 1923) comb. n.
Previous genus: Xyleborus
Diagnosis: The smallest representative of the genus in Melanesia, but its size is variable. Pronotum with elevated recurved carina on the frontal margin. Long and broad declivity, but notably narrower than in other Beaverium spp., attenuated towards the end. The costa around declivital apex is blunt. Punctures on declivity are of variable size, usually small and completely confused; however in some specimens the strial punctures are larger than the interstrial ones, creating an impression of a more aligned declivital surface. Little or no emargination of the apex of elytra. The dorsal outline of elytra is concave.
Length: 3.8–4.8 mm.
Discussion. Non-types of Xyleborus rufobrunneus from Philippines seen in BMNH and FICB are almost identical to B. sundaensis . A non-type of X. rufonitidus from Java (BMNH) also has a concavity on elytral disc. Browne (1961) placed these species among the " major group", with X. pseudopilifer , X. latus , and others, which seem to belong to more than one genus.
Examined material: Indonesia, Java, Poerwakarta, (lectotype, USNM); PNG: Madang Prov. (6), Oro Prov. (2), J. Hulcr 2002–2006.
