Material. Two specimens found in mosses and soil from Hansan-do, Tongyeong-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, August 15, 2013.

The present study is the first to record this species since the original description from the Netherlands by De Koning (1947). The characteristics of the Korean specimens coincide well with those of the type specimens. The original description of this species seems to have been mainly based on feeding specimens in nests; therefore, it does not provide details regarding the morphology of the trunk in either feeding or creeping posture. In the Korean specimens, the trunk is constricted all around, immediately before the preanal pseudosegment; this makes the rump rather round. During feeding, the part of the trunk before the rump tends to become plump ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 a). None of the Korean specimens were observed in nests.

This species closely resembles H. longula Bryce, 1915 ; however, the two species can be distinguished by the following characteristics: (1) in H. fuscochlaena , each trochal disc has a rather round anterolateral margin in dorsal view, whereas in H. longula , each trochal disc has a squarish anterolateral margin in dorsal view; (2) the sulcus of this species is very narrow and U-shaped, whereas that of H. longula is V-shaped and rather shallow; and (3) The rim of the upper lip of H. longula is much thicker and wavier than that of this species.

Measurements. Total length (in creeping) 243 µm. Corona width 28 µm. Collar width 28 µm.
