Short description. General coloration grey and dark brown ( Fig. 8A View FIGURE 8 ). Head. Grey to greyish ocherous, with dark central stripe on vertex and lateral band on posterior part of vertex. Antenna about twice as long as head. Scape and pedicel dark brownish grey. Flagellum dusky yellow.
Thorax. Grey to greyish ocherous. Notum and pleuron mottled with dark brown spots and stripes. Wing ( Fig. 8B View FIGURE 8 ) subhyaline, heavily patterned with numerous small spots in cells and large markings. Legs mainly yellow; each femur with dark band at tip, 4–5 times as long as wide. Halter pale yellow; knob dark brown.
Abdomen. Brown; pregenital segments weakly dark on posterior part of each segment. Male terminalia ( Figs 8C–G View FIGURE 8 ) with outer gonostylus strongly narrowed on distal 1/4 into weakly curved claw-shaped lobe; inner concaved margin serrate; outer margin of outer gonostylus with subapical lobe; apical inner edge angulated at obtuse angle with rounded corner ( Fig. 8D View FIGURE 8 ). Paramere with mesal-apical lobe flat finger-shaped, slightly wide on distal part, about three times as long as wide and slightly longer than lateral lobe ( Fig. 8G View FIGURE 8 ). Aedeagus about six times as long as wide, curved posteroventrally at posterior end of lower shelf ( Fig. 8F View FIGURE 8 ). Apodeme of vesica directed ventrally ( Fig. 8F View FIGURE 8 ).
Measurements. Male (n = 12): body length: 3.7–4.3 mm; wing length: 4.5–5.5 mm.
Distribution. Japan (Honshu and Kyushu) ( Fig. 13D View FIGURE 13 ).
Remarks. See remarks in E. enischnophallus , sp. nov. for comparison to similar species.
