Madreallecula Kanda , new genus ( Figs. 1–3 View Fig View Fig View Figs , 6 View Fig )
Type species: Madreallecula mcclevei Kanda , new species
Diagnosis. The combination of declivous head, moniliform antennae, and clypeus with distal angles projecting laterally separates this genus from other Alleculina . The last two characters are not found in any of the described Alleculinae in North America. Many Alleculina occurring in the Southwest United States, especially species of Hymenorus Mulsant, 1851 , superficially resemble Madreallecula in body shape and color. While the species of Hymenorus exhibit considerable variation in form and size, the antennae are always filiform ( Fig. 4 View Figs ) and the distal angles of the clypeus never project laterally. Knausia crassicornis Fall, 1931 has a similar elongate oval form but can be distinguished by its sharp posterior angles of the pronotum and slightly flabellate antennae ( Fig. 5 View Figs ). Species of Menoeceus Champion, 1888 have their head covered by their pronotum but do not possess moniliform antennae and have the clypeus more typical of other Alleculina .
Description. Body elongate oval, setose. Head declivous, partially covered dorsally by pronotum. Eyes large and prominent, notched about midway anteriorly by canthus. Vertex abruptly constricted behind eyes. Frontoclypeal suture complete. Clypeus trapezoidal, distal angles projecting laterally ( Fig. 2 View Fig ). Antennae moniliform ( Fig. 3 View Figs ), apical eight antennomeres with complex sensoria. Terminal segment of maxillary palpi large, triangular. Pronotum broad, margins complete and well-defined. Prosternum declivous, flat. Legs short. Elytra striate, epipleura terminating before
