Variations. This species is widely distributed. The basal fascia is either present or absent. Specimens collected from Tianjin, Guizhou, Hunan, Sichuan, and Zhejiang have an obvious basal, medial and subterminal fasciae ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 17–23 ), while the basal fascia is absent, and the medial and subterminal fasciae present or absent in the specimens collected from other localities ( Fig. 21a View FIGURES 17–23 ).
Diagnosis: Adult ( Figs 21, 21a View FIGURES 17–23 ) wingspan 23.0– 35.5 mm. Calamotropha paludella is similar to C. fulvifusalis ( Hampson, 1900) externally. It can be distinguished from the latter by the rectangular valva in the male genitalia ( Fig. 43 View FIGURES 40–45 ), and the corpus bursae with one fan-like signum in the female genitalia ( Fig. 63 View FIGURES 61–64 ). In C. fulvifusalis , the valva is slightly narrower distally ( Bleszynski 1961: Fig. 106), and the corpus bursae has one subrhombic signum ( Bleszynski 1961: Figs 161, 162). In addition, this species is similar to C. aureliella ( Fischer von Röslerstamm, 1834) and C. doii Sasaki, 1997 in appearance. However, they are significantly different in the male genitalia, and the differences between them are stated in the diagnoses of C. aureliella and C. doii .
Distribution. China (Anhui, Beijing, Fujian, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hebei, Heilongjiang, Hubei, Hunan, Inner Mongolia, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Jilin, Liaoning, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Shandong, Shanghai, Sichuan, Taiwan, Tianjin, Xinjiang, Yunnan, Zhejiang), Afghanistan, Australia, Central Asia, Europe, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korean Peninsula, Madagascar, South Africa.
