Coprotretis jelskii Cabanis

Coprotretis jelskii Cabanis, 1874: 98 .

Now: Upucerthia jelskii jelskii ( Cabanis, 1874) View in CoL . See Cory & Hellmayr (1925: 46), and also Chesser et al. (2007) and Fjeldså et al. (2007).

Type series: Cabanis (1874: 98) based this species on one or more specimens, but entries in the Accession Catalogue of the ZMB indicate that he had only one specimen at his disposal, which is thus the holotype of this species. It is deposited in the ZMB.

Holotype: ZMB 21534 (B-10255), unsexed, collected by Jelski on an unknown date [= May 1871 to August 1873] at "Junin, Peru " [= Junín, Peru]. Received in spirit (cf. Cabanis 1874: 97).

Type locality: "Junin" ( Cabanis 1874: 98), i.e. Junín, Peru, but it is unclear whether this means the village of Junín [11.16°S, 76.00°W], the nearby Lake Junín [ca. 11.00°S, 76.10°W], or the Department of Junín, where Jelski collected birds at various localities (see Mlíkovský 2009b).

Remarks: Taczanowski (1875: 526) listed three specimens of this species from Junin, two of which were listed by Taczanowski (1889: 21) as Cabanis's types of this species. Neither of these specimens, which had no type status, survive in the MIZ (see Mlíkovský 2009b for details).
