Diagnosis. Large species that resembles P. inusta , but almost black in body and legs. Black in ground color, with grayish white pruinosity; frons 0.15–0.17 of head width in male, 0.30–0.32 in female; 1 presutural acrostichal seta; 3 postsutural dorsocentral setae; abdominal syntergite 1+2 without median marginal setae; male cerci in dorsal view strongly narrowed from base to apical 1/2 and parallel to apex, with distinct ridge on basal lateral margin.
Description. Body length: 9.9–11.7 mm.
Male. Head black in ground color, parafacial reddish brown below eye and above genal dilation, face pale yellowish; fronto-orbital plate, parafacial, genal dilation and occiput with grayish pruinosity, reflecting silvery white on lower fronto-orbital plate and parafacial under certain directions of light; face with thin whitish pruinosity; antenna brown-black, apex of pedicel narrowly reddish, arista brown; palpus reddish brown, slightly darkened basally. Frons at narrowest point 0.15–0.17 of head width; face 0.53–0.54 times as long as frons in profile; inner vertical setae crossing, about 3/5 of eye height; 12–16 frontal setae, upper ones fine, lowest seta nearly level with middle of pedicel; parafacial bare, wide, about 2 times as wide as postpedicel in horizontal position; gena about 1/2 of eye height; occiput bulged, with 3–4 rows of short black hairs behind row of postorbital setae. Antenna with postpedicel subequal to pedicel, 2nd aristomere slightly longer than wide, 3rd aristomere thickened on almost basal 1/2. Palpus at most 1.2 times as long as pedicel and postpedicel together.
Thorax black in ground color, with thin whitish-gray pruinosity; 4 rather broad longitudinal vittae visible on presutural area of scutum, weak and diffusing marginally on postsutural scutum. One presutural and 3 postsutural acrostichal setae; 3 presutural and 3 postsutural dorsocentral setae; 5–6 supra-alar setae, 2nd and 4th setae shorter than others; 3 katepisternal setae; anepimeral seta at most reaching posterior margin of lower calypter; anatergite bare; scutellum with 4 pairs of long marginal and 3 pairs of short and fine discal setae, apical seta absent; distance between bases of subapical scutellar setae about 1/2 of that between basal and subapical setae. Wing hyaline, weakly tinged with pale brown basally, distinctly tinged with brown along r-m crossvein; lower calypter pale yellowish white; ratio of 2nd, 3rd and 4th costal sectors approximately 3:6:2; length of vein M from dm-cu crossvein to bend about 1.5 times distance between bend and wing margin. Legs black; pulvilli dull yellowish; fore tibia with 2 preapical dorsal setae, a row of anterodorsal and 2–3 posterior setae; mid tibia with a row of 5–6 anterodorsal, 4–5 posterodorsal and 2 ventral setae; hind tibia with a row of 6–7 anterodorsal, 4 posterodorsal and 4 ventral setae.
Abdomen black, with thin grayish-white pruinosity on anterior 1/2–1/3 of 2nd to 5th tergites, pruinosity diffusing posteriorly. Hairs on dorsum dense, long and erect; syntergite 1+2 without median marginal setae, with 1–2 lateral marginal setae; 3rd tergite with 2–3 pairs of strong median discal, 3–4 lateral discal, a pair of median marginal and 2–3 lateral marginal setae, median discal setae rather irregularly set; 4th tergite with a pair of strong median discal and a row of marginal setae; 5th tergite with an irregularly-set row of strong discal setae and a row of rather short marginal setae; 2nd to 4th sternites exposed, with short dense suberect hairs.
Terminalia: 6th tergite about 1/3 as long as syntergosternite 7+8, with rather dense grayish pruinosity, a row of fine long setae on posterior margin, narrowly separated from syntergosternite 7+8; syntergosternite 7+8 shining brown-black, without pruinosity; epandrium with very thin grayish pruinosity; cerci in dorsal view rather strongly narrowed from base to apical 1/2, then parallel-sided, basal portion well ridged marginally on basal 1/2, in lateral view only weakly curved ventrally; surstylus in lateral view nearly long triangular in form, dorsoproximal area well expanded, with a row of strong setae on dorsoproximal margin and 3 short strong spines near apex; pregonite with fine short hairs on outer surface; apex of postgonite roundly concave; basiphallus long, about 1.6 times as long as distiphallus.
Female. Differs from male as follows: frons wide, vertex 0.30–0.32 of head width; frontal vitta about as wide as fronto-orbital plate at middle; parafacial about 2 times as wide as postpedicel at mid height in horizontal position; inner vertical seta almost 4/5 as long as eye height; outer vertical seta well developed, outwardly directed, about 2/3 as long as inner vertical seta; 1 outwardly directed prevertical seta about 1/2 as long as outer vertical seta; 2 subequally long proclinate orbital setae, about as long as outer vertical seta; 10–12 frontal setae, lowest seta nearly level with middle of pedicel; antenna with pedicel reddish brown on apical 1/2–1/3, almost 2/3 as long as postpedicel; palpus reddish yellow; sometimes 2 presutural acrostichal setae, then anterior seta fine; legs with fifth tarsomere rather weakly dilated, slightly longer than 4th tarsomere; claws and pulvilli shorter than in male, fore claws and pulvilli slightly shorter than 5th tarsomere. Terminalia: 6th tergite short, almost 2/3 as long as 7th tergite, narrowly separated mid-dorsally, with a row of strong setae on posterior margin; 6th sternite about 3/7 as long as 5th sternite, with dense short hairs medially; 6th spiracle on anteroventral margin of 6th tergite, 7th on lower 1/3 of posterior margin of 6th tergite; 7th sternite slightly longer than 6th sternite, weakly convex on posterior margin and weakly concave on posteromedian margin, with dense, short fine hairs on median area; 8th tergite reduced to small irregular-shaped quadrate sclerites, only 1/2 as long as 7th sternite, without hairs; 8th sternite formed of a small quadrate sclerite, longer than wide, entirely with dense short hairs, almost as long as 8th tergite; epiproct absent.
