Panzeria atriventris View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figs 7–10 View FIGURES 7–14 , 39–40 View FIGURES 39–44 , 69–70 View FIGURES 69–84 )
Fausta mimetes (Zimin) View in CoL : Mesnil (1972a: 1048; Palearctic tachinids) (nec Zimin 1960); O’Hara et al. (2009: 141; Chinese catalog, part) (nec Zimin 1960).
Panzeria mimetes (Zimin) : Shima & Hara (2016: 28; Saitama tachinids, misidentification) (nec Zimin 1960).
Diagnosis. This species appears to resemble P. mimetes ( Zimin, 1960) , but differs from it in the short proboscis, wider frons [about 5/14 of single eye width, instead 1/ 4 in mimetes ( Zimin 1960: 740) ], and the abdomen with thin grayish pruinosity throughout. Large black species, scutellum and abdomen black in ground color, with thin grayish white pruinosity; apical scutellar setae absent; three postsutural dorsocentral setae; one presutural seta; abdominal syntergite 1+2 without median marginal setae.
Description. Body length. 10.4–12.5 mm.
Male. Head with grayish white pruinosity, reflecting silvery white under certain directions of light, fronto-orbital plate darkened, occiput grayish; antenna black, apical portion of pedicel narrowly reddish; palpus dark brown, sometimes pale brown apically or nearly reddish yellow. Frons at narrowest point 0.14–0.16 of head width; face 0.50–0.60 times as long as frons in profile; parafacial bare, wide, about 1.5 times as wide as postpedicel in its horizontal position; gena about 1/2, or slightly more, of eye height in horizontal position. Antenna falling short of lower margin of face by about 2/3 length of pedicel; postpedicel almost as long as pedicel; arista subequal in length to pedicel and postpedicel combined, 2nd aristomere as wide as long, 3rd aristomere thickened on basal 2/5. Proboscis short; prementum at most 4 times as long as wide; palpus slightly longer than pedicel and postpedicel combined.
Thorax black in ground color, with thin whitish-gray pruinosity, much denser on anterior portion of presutural area of scutum and postpronotal lobe; 2 narrow median and a pair of broad outer longitudinal vittae visible on presutural area of scutum, sometimes inner vittae fused together and forming broad median vitta. One presutural and 2 postsutural acrostichal setae; 3 postsutural dorsocentral setae; 4–5 supra-alar setae, 2nd and 4th setae shorter than others; 3 katepisternal setae; anepimeral seta almost reaching posterior margin of lower calypter; anatergite bare; scutellum with 4 pairs of long marginal setae, apical setae absent, and 3–4 shorter discal setae; distance between bases of subapical scutellar setae about 1/3 of that between basal and subapical setae. Wing hyaline, rather weakly tinged with pale brown on basal and anterior portions, distinctly tinged with brown along r-m crossvein; lower calypter pale yellowish white; ratio of 2nd, 3rd and 4th costal sectors approximately 3:6:2.5; length of vein M from dm-cu crossvein to bend slightly more than distance between bend and wing margin. Legs black; pulvilli yellowish brown; fore tibia with 2–3 posterior setae; mid tibia with a row of 5–6 anterodorsal, 4–5 posterodorsal and 2 ventral setae; hind tibia with a row of 6–7 anterodorsal, 4 posterodorsal and 4 ventral setae.
Abdomen black, with thin grayish-white pruinosity throughout, the pruinosity slightly denser on anterior portion of 2nd to 5th tergites but not forming distinct bands. Hairs on dorsum dense, long and erect; syntergite 1+2 without median marginal setae, with 1–2 lateral marginal setae; 3rd tergite with 2–3 pairs of strong median discal, 2–3 lateral discal, 2–4 median marginal and 2–3 lateral marginal setae, median discal setae rather irregularly set; 4th tergite with 1–2 pairs of strong median discal and a row of marginal setae, discal setae rather irregularly set; 5th tergite with an irregularly-set row of strong discal setae and a row of weak, hair-like marginal setae; 2nd to 4th sternites exposed, with several strong setae on each posterior portion.
Terminalia: 6th tergite with thin grayish pruinosity, a row of rather strong setae on posterior margin, about 1/3 as long as shining black syntergosternite 7+8, free from the latter; epandrium with very thin grayish pruinosity; cerci in dorsal view weakly narrowed from base to basal 1/2, slightly constricted near middle, then very slightly widened or nearly parallel-sided to apex, rather well ridged on both sides from basal 1/7 to 1/2, in lateral view apical portion weakly curved ventrally; surstylus well ridged on dorsal margin slightly basad to the middle, well narrowed to rounded apex, with 3–5 spines on apex; postgonite well widened apically with strong constriction at apical margin.
Female. Differs from male as follows: frons 0.28–0.3 of head width; frontal vitta about as wide as frontoorbital plate at middle; outer vertical seta developed, almost 4/5 as long as inner vertical seta; 1 rather fine outwardly directed prevertical seta; 1 outwardly directed and 1 proclinate orbital seta; palpus reddish slightly longer than pedicel and postpedicel combined; antenna with scape, pedicel and narrow basal portion of postpedicel reddish brown; claws and pulvilli shorter than 5th tarsomere; abdominal hairs fine and rather recumbent; 3rd abdominal tergite with 2 pairs of median discal setae; 4th tergite with 1 or 2 pairs of median discal setae. Terminalia: 6th tergite small, narrowly separated mid-dorsally, with a row of rather strong setae on posterior margin; 6th sternite rather long, about 1.5 times as long as 6th tergite; 6th spiracle on anteroventral margin of 6th tergite, 7th spiracle on membrane just behind posteromedian margin of 6th tergite; 7th tergite entire, slightly longer than 6th tergite, with a row of rather fine setae on posterior margin; 7th sternite weakly convex on posteromedian portion and narrowly and weakly concave on posterior margin, with rather dense short hairs on convex area; 8th tergite formed of small irregular quadrate hemitergites, without hairs; 8th sternite reduced to a quadrate-shapoe sclerite, with rather dense short hairs; epiproct absent.

Etymology. This species is named after its dark body color, and combines the Latin adjective ater, black, with the Latin noun venter, belly.
Distribution. Japan (Hokkaido, Honshu); South Korea.
Remarks. Panzeria mimetes was described by Zimin (as Fausta ) from the Abakan area, South Siberia, Russia. Zimin (1960: 740) mentioned that this species has a narrow and long proboscis, about seven times as long as wide. Richter (2004: 298) also referred to this structure in the key to the Far East Russian species as a discriminating character from the other three species. None of the Japanese specimens examined could be assigned to this species based on this character, although Mesnil (1972a: 1048) recorded the species from Yamagata, Japan. Chao et al. (1998: 2068) recorded P. mimetes from Tibet, China, and Japan, Richter (2004: 298) listed Japan as a locality of distribution, and Zhang et al. (2016: 580) recorded it from Japan along with Liaoning and Xizang (Tibet), China. I think these records of P. mimetes from Japan probably refer to P. atriventris sp. nov.
