Eoophyla euprepialis sp. n.
Type locality: D.R. Congo, Ht. Katania
Imago (Fig. 46): Wingspan 14–18mm. Head white; labial palpus segment 3 white, longer than segment 2, 2 with some fuscous scales above. Thorax ochreous-white. Forewing ground colour white; an indistinct fuscous or ochreous subbasal fascia, some yellow antemedian suffusion; a fuscous spot on costa at ½ weakly continued in an outwardly convex curve to dorsum; a white oblique strigula from near costa at 2/3 edged darker especially on the outer side; a subterminal costal strigula edged fuscous and lower portion filled with silver-grey; terminal area yellow, a silver-grey tornal spot; terminal cilia pale greyish ochreous. Hindwing with a small curved subbasal bar; yellow suffusion from before middle to dark subterminal line enclosing a greyish triangle below middle and before subterminal lines; a white zone before four black terminal eyespots, each bearing two bluish metallic spots, yellow between eyespots, a small silver tornal spot, terminal cilia pale fuscous. Legs white.
Abdomen whitish ochreous.
Male genitalia (Fig. 119): Uncus spatulate; gnathos armed with reverse pointing spines on the upper surface near tip; valva broad and rounded, but apex drawn into right-angled point, a pair of simple specialised setae arising near apex; juxta shaped like an inverted T, the posterior portion bearing spines on each side; saccus broad. Aedeagus slender with a small cornutus, apex clothed with small spines.
Female genitalia: Not examined.
Tympanal organs: Venulae long and waisted.
Diagnosis. This species is distinguished by the clear white area above the terminal eyespots of the hindwing and the clearly distinguished four terminal eyespots.
Derivation: from the Greek euprepes meaning beautiful.
Biology: Unknown.
Distribution: Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania.
