Eoophyla carcassoni sp. n.
Type locality: Kenya, Kangema .
Imago (Fig. 57): Wingspan 15–18mm. Head white; labial palpus segment 3 white, slender and pointed, slightly longer than segment 2, segment 2 with fuscous sales beneath; antenna dull ochreous. Thorax whitish, partly covered by long hairs on tegulae. Forewing ground colour whitish; base suffused dark fuscous; pale yellow bent antemedian fascia; a broad interrupted and irregular dark fuscous median fascia incorporating yellow discal spot; obscure irregular pale yellow fascia beyond this; termen pale yellow; seven dark fuscous dots along termen; terminal cilia whitish. Hindwing white; very obscure partial antemedian fascia; V-shaped postmedian fascia, the lower arm being subterminal; 6 black eyespots, 2–3 and 4–5 fused, yellow beyond 6; terminal cilia whitish, the inner third pale fuscous. Legs pale yellow except forelegs which have dark fuscous above on femur, tibia and tarsomere 1. Abdomen pale yellow.
Male genitalia (Fig. 121): Uncus spatulate but pointed at apex, gnathos slender, ¾ length of uncus, a few dorsal spines near apex; valva with dorsal edge irregular, a specialised seta arising near apex at first elbowed, terminating in a circular disc; small protuberance either side of juxta; aedeagus simple bearing cluster of spines around apex, vesica with a bunch of 4–5 cornuti.
Female genitalia (Fig. 182): ostium wide, ductus with a scobinate patch near sclerotised colliculum, corpus bursae almost spherical, length about equal to ductus, signum weak, a broad ribbed patch.
Tympanal organs: Venulae long and straight, but diverging slightly at anterior end, tympani rectangular with rounded corners.
Diagnosis: Distinguished from other members of the genus by the conspicuous broad dark central fascia of the forewing.
Derivation: after Carcasson who took the first specimen.
Biology: Unknown. Adults observed in vi, viii, xi.
Distribution: Known only from the type locality on the southern Mathioya River and nearby on the northern Mathioya, Central Kenya.
