The name Eurylepis was resurrected from the synonymy of Eumeces by Griffith et al. (2000) for two species from SW Asia— E. taeniolatus and E. poonaensis . The same authors indicate that E. poonaensis may be only a synonym of E. taeniolatus . In that case the genus Eurylepis remains monotypic. The genus differs from Eumeces also in the karyotype ( Kupriyanova 1986).
